Getting Started
Setting up Hold is simple:
- Download Hold from the App Store
- Open the app and complete the onboarding questionnaire
- When prompted, allow Hold to add a VPN configuration
- Tap "Activate Hold" to start blocking gambling sites
That's it! Hold will now block gambling sites in the background.
Hold uses a local VPN configuration to block gambling sites on your device. This is how we can block gambling sites before they load.
This is NOT a traditional VPN. Your internet traffic is NOT routed through external servers. All processing happens locally on your device for complete privacy.
Yes! Hold offers a 7-day free trial with full access to all features. No credit card is required to start the trial. After 7 days, you'll need a subscription to continue using the blocking features.
How It Works
Hold uses network-level blocking. When any app or browser on your device tries to access a gambling site, Hold intercepts the request and blocks it before it can load.
This means gambling sites are blocked before they even start loading, across all apps and browsers on your device.
Hold maintains a comprehensive blocklist of gambling apps and websites, including:
- Sports betting sites (Bet365, DraftKings, FanDuel, etc.)
- Online casinos
- Poker sites
- Lottery websites
- Gambling apps and their web versions
We regularly update this list to include new gambling sites.
No. Hold only checks if a site is on the blocklist. Your actual browsing traffic flows normally. The blocking check happens in milliseconds and is imperceptible during normal use.
Hold has minimal impact on battery life. The VPN runs efficiently in the background. Most users don't notice any difference in battery consumption.
Privacy & Security
Yes, absolutely. Hold is designed with privacy as a core principle:
- All blocking happens on your device — no external servers
- We cannot see which sites you visit
- Your blocked attempt logs stay on your device
- No browsing data is ever transmitted

No. Hold only checks which sites you're trying to access (e.g., "bet365.com"). We cannot see:
- The content of websites you visit
- Your passwords or login information
- Your messages, emails, or personal data
- What you do on allowed websites
Subscription & Billing
To cancel your Hold subscription:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone
- Tap your name at the top
- Tap Subscriptions
- Find and tap Hold
- Tap Cancel Subscription
Your subscription will remain active until the end of your current billing period.
If you've previously subscribed and need to restore your purchase (e.g., on a new device):
- Open Hold
- Go to Settings
- Tap "Restore Purchases"
Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to subscribe.
Refunds are handled by Apple. To request a refund:
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com →
- Sign in with your Apple ID
- Find your Hold purchase and request a refund
Troubleshooting
If Hold frequently disconnects, try these steps:
- Make sure you're running the latest version of Hold
- Update your iPhone to the latest iOS version
- Go to Settings → General → VPN and ensure Hold is enabled
- Try toggling Hold off and on again in the app
- Restart your iPhone
Hold includes auto-reconnect functionality that should restore protection automatically after brief disconnections.
If you find a gambling site that isn't blocked:
- First, verify that Hold protection is active (green status in the app)
- Contact us at support@hold-app.com with the website address →
- We'll add it to our blocklist in a future update
Note: Some gambling sites may use unusual domains or techniques. We continuously update our blocklist to catch new sites.
To delete all locally stored data:
- Open Hold
- Go to Settings
- Scroll down and tap "Reset All Data"
- Confirm the action
This will delete all blocked attempt logs, money saved entries, and preferences. Your subscription status is not affected.
